Welcome to the Applied Centre for Emotional Literacy. Our new website is currently under construction, but please find below some interim information about the centre.
The Applied Centre for Emotional Literacy Leadership& Research (ACELLR) was established in 2009.Our Centre was launched in June 2009, by one of the pioneers of Emotional Literacy, Jack Mayer.
The inspiration for our Centre emanates from our emotional literacy (“soft-skills”) teacher training programme at the City College of Wolverhampton, which the College has been involved in since, 2004.
Emotional Literacy is a perspective that helps us to understand, recognise, interpret and manage our own behaviours as well as others. Emotional Literacy is concerned with how we use and chose our emotions more effectively both in and out of the classroom. Research suggests that Emotional Literacy not IQ shapes as much as 70% of our success. It is said that all learning has an emotional base.
Our Mission is to establish social and emotional learning as an essential part of teachers, staff and young’s people Education. This approach is commonly known as a whole-school approach.
Our Centre is dedicated to improving schools, colleges, students, educators, teachers, non-teaching staff and families through evidence-based social and emotional learning curriculums and programmes. We also have programmes in behavioural management, business, health, social work and social care. Research has proven that emotional skills are integral to personal, social and academic success.
For example, Emotional Intelligence predict over 54% of the variation in performance(white paper, EQ and Performance). Therefore, our goal is to help integrate social/emotional learning into accredited academic instruction (eg. school curriculum, coaching, training, conferences and master-courses, CPD) to enhance student performance school climate, wellness, happiness, develop healthy mental and positively engaged young people, motivation, and reduce behavioural problems and better relationships between teachers, staff and young people.
Our Centre translates research into practice by establishing meaningful and relevant training, programmes, services, strategies, approaches and technologies that support a model for whole school improvement with a focus on over all school climate through better social and emotional skills. The student and teacher programmes provide participants with the tools, practical exercises and knowledge to develop the emotional literacy skills; they need to become more effective educators.
ACELLR transforms all this learning, approaches, strategies and technologies and knowledge into a variety of scientifically validated diagnostics and assessments tools, which is grounded in neuroscience to improve one’s emotional literacy skills and competencies.
Our workshop, master-classes and courses are offered on site or off site and can be modified for content and length depending upon the needs of your organisation. We are also available for keynotes, coaching, training-the-trainers seminars and continuing professional development (CDP) courses.
